The idea
Genealogy software is either ancient desktop shareware or a subscription that holds your family history hostage. LaFamiglia is the opposite: your family, beautifully mapped, stored entirely in your own browser. No accounts, no server, no lock-in.
The build
The tree is an ego-centric hourglass — you in the middle, ancestors above, descendants below — designed mobile-first so filling it in feels fast rather than administrative. Everything lives in IndexedDB via Dexie; GEDCOM import and export means your data walks in and out freely. Photos, timelines, maps and stats hang off the same local store.
Famiglia AI is the part I'm most interested in: an assistant with full read/write access to the tree. Tell it "add my nonna's side" in plain language and it does the data entry — every change batch-undoable, so trusting it costs nothing.
Where it's going
Making Famiglia AI the primary way people build their tree, and richer storytelling around the data — the tree is the structure, but the stories are why anyone does this.
